What services can I expect from a design professional?

In addition to offering professional design services, many companies also sell appliances, sinks/faucets, countertops, flooring and more. Most companies have experienced installers on staff as well. What is a “CKD” and why is this important?

“CKD” is a nationally recognized accreditation set forth by the NKBA (National Kitchen & Bath Association) which stands for “Certified Kitchen Designer.” A CKD or CBD (Certified Bath Designer) is someone who designs and supervises the design execution of residential remodeling and new construction projects. To become a CKD, designers must have seven years of full-time design experience or equivalent credit earned through NKBA-endorsed college courses. They must then pass a detailed seven hour exam and be approved by the NKBA Societies Board of Governors for final approval. Keep in mind that designers who are not CKD certified can still be quite talented and experienced. On the other hand, “CKDs” are recognized by the industry for their impressive knowledge base.

What is a “work triangle” and why is it important?

The work triangle is an imaginary line drawn from each of the three primary work stations in the kitchen and allows you to assess the distance required to move to and from each area and thus determine how well the traffic will flow.
